Will Tyson-Dean of Students

William Tyson brings a diverse background in education, athletics, leadership, and business to his role at Washington High School as Dean of Students. He earned his undergraduate degree from Barton College, where he majored in Exercise Physiology and minored in Strength and Conditioning. He later attended North Carolina State University to obtain his teaching licensure, transitioning his passion for leadership and mentorship into the field of education.

Before entering education, Mr. Tyson spent 15 years working in banking, finance, and management, developing strong skills in leadership, communication, and organizational effectiveness. Throughout his educational career, he has remained deeply committed to student success and athletic excellence. He has coached for more than 20 years and currently serves as the Athletic Director at Washington High School. His dedication to education and leadership was recognized when he became the first educator in Beaufort County history to receive the prestigious Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership award back in 2023.

As he looks ahead to the upcoming school year at WHS, Mr. Tyson is most excited about building deeper connections with the entire staff and supporting them in their daily work. He is also eager to strengthen relationships with students and serve as a positive liaison between the faculty and student body. Through collaboration, communication, and a shared commitment to success, he looks forward to helping foster a supportive and thriving school community.
